Status of the Futanari Genre at the end of 2017

2017 comes to a close, and we see even fewer futanari comics are being published than last year. Reference the following list for details: フタナリのコミック 2017年. This is a disturbing trend to notice. Especially when longstanding futanari illustrators attend Comiket (コミックマーケット) without a new doujinshi!

(Reference: ぼっしぃ/AskRay does not have a futanari book — 沈没, Rebis/アルセノテリス are illustrating a non-futanari gyaru book — ラヂヲヘッド/革命政府広報室is attending Comiket 93 with a Silent Hill book that is not futanari related… after illustrating the mascot for Futaket 13.5 a month before!)

Japan is trending toward content featuring TSF/Traps… kind of like Natalie Mars‘s look. This is pendulum swing back to what some circles received (abgrund/さいかわゆさ, カンナビス/しまじ) death threats for back in 2012… However, there has not been much backlash thus far.

Meanwhile, the majority of Western illustrators still have an infuriating habit of only producing pinup illustrations. If an illustrator possesses the work ethic to create a comic, it is usually hidden behind a Patreon paywall and not available for a-la-carte purchase.

Also, 3DX content releases are becoming more frequent than hand-drawn artwork among the Western community. Therefore, it is safe to say that the entry level to produce 3DX has been lowered.

Finally, pirating. An issue that affects all digital content creators. Some notable names (Blackadder, Sarath) have quit this year due to pirating, while Japanese illustrators simply continue to refuse interactions with the Western community. A problem without a solution.

What does 2018 hold in store? We will soon find out!
