a couple of questions for Sarath

hanging there by Sarath

Earlier in the week Sarath, a controversial BDSM artist illustrating digital comics, was gracious enough to answer some interview questions that were formed in the spur of the moment. This is what we talked about:

Talk a little bit about yourself. Some readers might not be fanatical enough to reach out to you. For example, I don’t believe English is your native language is it?
Nope. You got me there… I’m from Colombia as you can see on my FetLife profile… then again I had been watching cartoons and reading comics in English since I can recall…

Which artists, persons and/or ideas had or have influence on your work? Do you have favorite comic artists you admire?
Of course… that would be Georges Pichard… he is the one I consider my mentor and inspiration, I wanted to create a futa version of his twisted and completely demented stories…

Can you explain how you started illustrating for Lustomic? How did your affiliation evolve to a partnership with Xavier Duvet?
It wasn’t hard at all… I just followed the submissions guidelines… Lustomic is a great place to publish you know?… They support and appreciate the artists in any way they can, I mean they even stood up for me somewhere in 2004 when “they” (I wont point any fingers here but I’m sure you all know who am I talking about…) try to shut them down for publishing my extreme comics… later I received an invitation from Xavier to participate on his page… great people to work with!

About your background/career. Besides working with Lustomic, have you done any previous erotic comic illustration? Can you tell us something about your older publications? Maybe illustrations or “short stories” for magazines?
Actually Lustomic is the place that gave me the chance to start working in adult comics… prior that there is only personal fap material!… ajajajaja

Most of the work that is publicly available contains either feminization or shemales, basically MtF characters. Can you see yourself illustrating a completely futanari character?
Sure, I even at the beginning of my drawing practice I used to draw manga style.

Some viewers find the content of your work, and Lustomic’s in general, to be too brutal – even though blood is never depicted. I personally don’t mind, but how do you respond to criticism like that?
I say that as long as it is fiction and no one gets hurt (if they don’t want to of course), there is license to do anything the mind can imagine… my answer would be “don’t police the urges of the body, just enjoy them!”

Related to the previous question, who do you consider is your target audience? I find that Lustomic’s target audience may be female in nature.
Actually I never thought of a target audience… I just depicted my fantasies and I was lucky enough to have people in the world who likes them, but to be honest most of the Doms in my comics are female because later I learned that there is a HUGE segment of my audience that are submissive males.

Are there any new artists or authors that have grasped your interest since your work has been published on the internet?
Of course!, Dmitrys is one of my favorites… InCase is awesome too, I follow their works quite close…

Myself and your fans get real stir-crazy when you don’t release something for a while. What’s the normal turnaround time to complete a comic like Family Ties: Hillbilly Sluts?
Something about two months and a half working full time on the title… but now I’m on other projects… so I ask the audience for some patience… since it’s going to be some time until I’m back doing nasty stuff!!

Thank you. Your fans will be anxiously awaiting your next project, don’t forget about us! BTW did you have anything you wanted to say in general to people that would read the interview?
What else to say?… well I think: Thank You all for reading!!!
