There are some questions that Americans (or gaijin 「外人」) never ask, or are never asked, to Japanese artists. Questions about copyright infringement, questions about fanart and doujinshi usage, and even questions of a personal nature. I hope this is the first of many interviews with Japanese artists.

[tag]REBIS[/tag] is the main artist (or leader if you will) of the [tag]アルセノテリス[/tag] 「Arsenothelus」 doujinshi circle and publishes The Great Work of Alchemy series of books. For this first interview I asked questions that would not pressure him or translate in a negative fashion related to REBIS DUNGEON, [tag]TGWOA[/tag], and his relations with english language fans:

+++

futanari.org: We know your penname is REBIS, and you are responsible for アルセノテリス, but is there any additional information you would be willing to share (reguarding your personality)?

Arsenothelus: You may know it from my works, I’m a fanatical RPG gamer and metal miniatures collector. I’m living in piles of rulebooks and with legions of thousands (yes really more than ten-thousands) miniatures.

futanari: How long has Rebis Dungeon (as a webpage) been active?

Rebis: Dungeon has been active since 12th Sep. 1998. I run it almost 7.5 years.

futanari: In your belief, what defines a [tag]futanari[/tag] character?

Rebis: I hope they are not “females with penis”, but be Androgynous both mentally and physically. Of course each characters may be more feminine or masculine. And I think they should be distinguish from shemales or trans.

futanari: Are there other futanari artists you admire?

Rebis: It is hard to say each names, for there are so many wonderful futanari artists!

futanari: directly related to the previous question, which artists have influenced your work? (not futanari, not erotic?)

Rebis: In recent years, I’ve been influenced by skinny and musucular futanari girls, which are drawn by T.K-1, MCD, and UMA. For not futanari, works of Wamusato-Hal inspired me greatly. For non-erotic, comics from Weekly Jump have influenced me.

futanari: What artist would you recommend as the best new futanari [tag]artist[/tag] in the last year? There was a vote on this topic, and Kouin N won. We would like to know who you would have voted for.

Rebis: I recommended Chin-botu, for he eagerly draw futanari arts from the last year.

戦国

futanari: With so little reguarding your character profiles on the internet, could you provide some background information on the “Pururina Kingdom” 「プルリナ王国」? For example, who is [tag]Prina[/tag]’s mother, why is Prina a princess?

Rebis: All Rebis fantasy works are set in my original multiverse. “Pururina Kingdom” exists in one of such planes. It is a plane blessed by [tag]androgynous[/tag] goddesses, and most of its population is androgynous. The Kingdom lays at center of the world. Pururina bloodline is the most noble and sacred in the world, because myths say one of their ancestors is the Great Mother Goddess herself. Prina’s mother is Priddis the Queen and because Prina is a daughter of the Queen, she is (of course) a princess.

futanari: You state, and I quote, “プリナが探索する迷宮と、REBIS DUNGEONとの関係とは?そしてプリナが守護者に数えられる運命とは、果たして……?” Do you infer that the Rebis Dungeon is the location of The Great Works of Alchemy? (where Prina is looking for mother)

Rebis: Now, there is no evidence that “REBIS DUNGEON” is the dungeon Prina is wondering. But her destiny is bound to “REBIS DUNGEON”, because she appears as one of Guardians of REBIS DUNGEON at first. (Guardians are iconic charecters of my site)

futanari: If given the chance, would you accept [tag]commissions[/tag]? Commissions are profit for an original artwork.
These are common among American artists. see A or B

Rebis: No. Because I wish to share my works as many as possible for my fans. Commission is not the best way for it.

futanari: Please give the readers a quote to conclude this interview :-)

Rebis: “Fantasy, abandoned by reason, produces impossible monsters; united with it, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of marvels.” (Goya)

Already in retrospect, I regret the fact I did not lead into the questions that I asked Rebis. That is something to improve upon with consequential interviews.
