mamabliss is a very friendly, and INTERESTING artist.
To crudely parody Spider-Man - mamabliss is, "Your neighborhood friendly porn artist." Maintaing a dexterity to operate three subscription webpages, three archives, and a forum, mamabliss still manages to illustrate commissioned images (albeit tied to a subscription page lately). Later in the year, she plans to operate a futanari / dickgirl themed subscription page, and showcase her personal creation (Crashdoll) in another subscription page. mamabliss is so busy generating content. . . that this interview was conducted inbetween her drafting sessions. I hope that the questions asked are beneficial to both her current, and future fans. Without further ado. . .
futanari.org: Many followers of mainstream hentai artists are not aware of you, unless they follow a specific fetish; could you give a little history about your work on the web?
mamabliss: Well I have tended to focus on some pretty esoteric genres . . . lessee, I started back in 2000 with mamabliss.com an um… quickly discovered I couldn't draw fast enough to keep up (I think she's pretty fast and efficent).. been trying to ever since.
About two years ago after some problems with my billing company, at that time I divided my work up into a few different sites which has been working out pretty good - it lets me tell how many people like the different stuff I do which helps a lot and keeps them kinda seperated out which is good cause they don't all get along, one gets tired of people describing stuff as 'not their thing'.
futanari: Yes, I understand that alot (from our other discussions), but now that everybody is caught up. . . we are aware that you illustrate herms1 in the furry sense, but what about futanari? Are there any differences between the way you depict them?
mamabliss: Hmm, besides making the furry ones fuzzzy?
futanari: Yep! I'd guess like how you are making Agave and Crashdoll futanarikko characters, compared to actual furry "herms" in Doug Winger's vain.
mamabliss: Well all my stuff tends to come out pretty much the same… actually I tend to draw herms with female sex'es which Doug doesnt do… I guess it would be hard to tell with the massive balls getting in the way. However I can assure everyone when I get going I'll be drawin all sorts.
futanari: Alot of people ask me, "Why do you pay so much for hentai? If at all?" With you running a subscription service and offering commissions, how would you respond to that question (For example, is your art your full income?) I believe I have procured around 100$ US in commissions from you.
mamabliss: Most people don't pay for stuff online, nothing wrong with that… thing is the internet is so much more efficient at hooking up artists and audiences that it doesnt take very many subscribers to do something like this. . . in facccct, the current number of subscribers I have is amazingly close to the circulation some of my self published comic books hit, when they were complete failures. If I were printing an actual publication with the audience size I have, I'd be in trouble.2
Yes I'm making a living, at least lately, with my arts. Ah… well commissions are something else… I'm trying to shift away from those a bit since they can get in the way of other stuff. I havent attempted to do anything 'mainstream' though I might at some point because I'm not sure it exists… or if it does that the people interested would feel strongly enough about stuff to subscribe. Also I can't stand European 'adult' stuff which is mainly what one sees in that catagory (mainstream).
futanari: I find that many people have to 'acquire the taste' to enjoy your art. What artsytle, or particular artist influences your distinctive style? I mean, its one of a kind among erotic art and hentai in general - purely sketch based, very emotional lines, bright and solid color schemes.
mamabliss: I am confused by that since I'm under the impression i'm just drawin stuff. I do like artists who are a bit more expressive in there use of form though, well especally ones who look like their just drawing stuff off the top of their head.
futanari: What is your stance on digital replication of your artwork? Would you approve of users uploading images from your previews to image boards such as 4chan, 2chan, or 6channel?
mamabliss: Sure, I'm all for it. As long as its in reasonable amounts… as long as nobody goes an duplicates my entire archives I'm fine with it. If people request stuff, I usually post it on my site as a freebie. I'd prefer peoples see me as the source of this stuff instead of setting up alternate distribution networks.
futanari: What if art from your subscription subsection is released, how far would you handle the problem? I'll give some examples. Trump of Team Shuffle uses an extensive watermark on his images and many japanese artists only release new work on a printed format (doujinshi 「同人誌」, comic 「コミック」). I guess the question now is, how far would you protect your work?
mamabliss: Hmm, maybe if I was more popular i'd be more concerned^^. As far as I've been able to tell, people seeing my stuff is a positive^^ - I post all my stuff publicly anyway. I've found that's the best way to get people to subscribe.
futanari: Wow, I thought you would have been harsher to that question actually ^^. The subscriptions are basically liquid income, if they are globally available (torrent) that might detract from your funds. . .
mamabliss: Hmm… i'm not sure what the effect of my stuff being available in torrent form would be, that would make me nervous . . . on the other hand you have to differentiate between stuff being traded about in teh larger internet, and the effect on the core audience for a particular thing.
futanari: You mentioned in a previous conversation that your futanari art page is still being worked on; is it too early to request the title of this new page, or could you provide an example of some of your premier works?
mamabliss: Hmm… not just yet.3
mamabliss has given me permission to upload some images from an unreleased commission, featuring my personal character of Agave and one of my friends in real-life.
futanari: Now I know from frequent conversations you use many exclamations and slang (woot woot / others). Sometimes these words creep into your comics. Am I to assume this stems from your personality?
mamabliss: Naww, I'm just being cute.
futanari: o.O it is cute btw. From the last question, what is your personality or what profile do you provide? An example of what I mean is various profiles on artist pages e.g. Haruki Genia, CHIRO, Trantkat (2 others)
mamabliss: Hmm.. I prefer to keep as low a profile as possible. Heh, if I put up messages its usualy about 'I drew some stuff' or 'I'm trying to draw some stuff'; I like to keep the focus on my art as much as possible.
futanari: Thanks for your time and patience in the interview, once again you have been a pleasure to talk to. Don't be shy about giving readers a statement to end with or whatever
mamabliss: Um… heh, I better get back work^^.

By definition, a hermaphrodite is any of those who exhibit primary sexual organs of both sexes. However, within the furry fandom, a hermaphrodite is often represented as an overtly female figure with both male and female primary sexual characteristics. There is a thin line in the fandom between herms and she-males, even though the latter does not meet the above-mentioned criteria.
