Note: for the purpose of this article refer to Aimaitei Umami as the circle (Aimaitei) not the individual. To begin with, the circle has a very specific focus. This focus is futa-on-male (ふた×男), however the male is almost always drawn submissively and not overflowing with testosterone. As a result, it's very female focused for a primarily futanari circle. If you were a reader of BL (Boys' Love), then I think the focus is pretty similar, but I can't confirm that because I don't read BL content. This is just the general feeling that I get while viewing Aimaitei's work. Now, none of the circle's doujinshi have been officially translated into English language. While attending events in Japan (ふたけっと12 「Futaket 12」, ふたけっと12.5 「Futaket 12.5」, and Comic Market 91) we were able to purchase the circle's doujinshi. The circle is progressively getting better and better in illustration and storytelling, and with attendance at these events I started to take a greater notice of Aimaitei in general. At past Futaket events the circle was not really popular, likely due to the futa-x-male content… at Comiket however, the circle was a little more popular with a majority female audience in attendance browsing through the booths. However, at Futaket 13.5 the growing popularity of the circle was apparent, with fans lining up in queues for the new books. Taking notes on Aimaitei's aesthetics… there is a particular focus on the storytelling aspects of each title. Each character is developed in detail, there is strong plot structuring and lengthy sex scenes. The artwork is not outstanding, per say but is improving featuring relaxed linework (something I personally attribute to a feminine touch) similar to RaTe or ひねもすのたり. In closing, Aimaitei is definitely a circle that you should continue to consider in the future. As a reminder, the circle tends to delve into Yaoi, Shota and general BL themes as well, so fair warning. Right now, I'm unaware of any manga or tankōbon they they've released in the past so read their doujinshi where you are able to. Consider supporting Aimatei directly via Enty or with digital purchases through Booth, DMM, and DLsite. 13.5 「Futaket 13.5」, we asked Aimaitei for an interview and did not expect it until after their Comic Market preparation. Surprisingly quick, we received a prompt reply and also translated the interview for our English readers which is now available below: Edit futanari.org: あなたの時間をありがとう。 Edit English Interview futanari.org: So a good starting question is, what was your initial exposure/attraction to futanarism? Aimaitei Umami: I've been thinking deeply about this question. However, because my first encounter with futanari was like ages ago, I can't quite remember that time. In my early teens, I think I was already drawing uniform-clad girls with dick and for me, it was pretty exciting in a sexual fashion. futanari.org: From your point of view, why are more females becoming involved in the genre? When I first attended Futaket (Futaket 10) the Female/Male attendee ratio was 5/95. The ratio now is around 20/80. Aimaitei Umami: I think that's because of the recent wide recognition of Futaket over the internet. As Futaket is certainly an enjoyable event, lots of people become interested as they come across some tweets for the event. Through Twitter and pixiv, the administration of Futaket has been actively advertising their events and also, giving talks to members of several circles. Additionally, I've heard this rumor that besides the futanari genre, there is an increase in drag (men wearing women's outfit) and trap circles as well (maybe these could be their main genres).1) futanari.org: I agree… it would seem to become a substitute for Shota Scratch, however also the genre is changing (especially the print industry… see フタナリのコミック and compare 2010 to 2014 and present year). futanari.org: Would you say you have more Yaoi/BL followers or more futanari followers? Aimaitei Umami: As BL's Twitter account has been virtually inactive, that's quite hard to compare. futanari.org: How do you come up with your scenarios? They seem… quite unique. Aimaitei Umami: When swimming, riding a bicycle and a futanari girl being right beside me… futanari.org: Would you call that “nichijou” (slice-of-life)? Aimaitei Umami: It is close to slice-of-life. However, ideas do not come out very well when “I am suffering in front of a PC” occupies most of my daily life. futanari.org: We see that you maintain an Enty page. Have you considered reaching out to your Western fanbase through Patreon? Rebis, 沈没, ShindoL and ubanis (to name a few) have very successful campaigns. Aimaitei Umami: I'm kind of jealous of all those successful campaigns but since all of those authors are really skillful and erotic, I feel as if they live in a different realm of the world. I don't know much about Patreon. Right now, I spend most of my time drawing comics (it's been lots of fun). However, if my fans are willing to browse, I'd like to learn about it. I hope there's someone who can teach me how to use Patreon… (Maybe I need to learn on my own). futanari.org: Following up to the previous question, would you consider teaming up with a Western company (e.g. 2D-Market、FAKKU、Project-H、SHIKIMAYA) to provide official English translations of your doujinshi? Aimaitei Umami: Yes, definitely! But I wonder if there are people willing to promote my works. What do you think? futanari.org: I would hope so! Aimaitei Umami: I'll give it a try …! futanari.org: For aspiring illustrators reading this, how long does it take for you to complete a manuscript? Earlier in your career you attended less events… however as of 2016 you have released at least 5 books a year! Aimaitei Umami: It takes from 2 weeks to 1 month but a decent, ambitious person should do a long-term outlook, so my time shouldn't be taken as a reference at all. futanari.org: In closing, I'd like to invite you to reach out to your fans. Say anything you want. Aimaitei Umami: I can make a living by doing what I love (drawing comics) all thanks to those who support and buy my works. If you are one of them, I'm really grateful. What you like is what I also like. I'm delighted to be able to share that with you. Because I'm not much of a talker, drawing comics is a method for me to express myself. Aimaitei Umami: I wish that all of us, whether near or far, could carry on living together with our common desire of being dominated by a futanari girl's cock. futanari.org: Thank you for your time. Aimaitei Umami: Thank you very much for your precious time! Edit 1) note: larger doujinshi circles at events do not have time to look around Last modified: 2020/04/07 08:48(external edit) Log In
